I think I have just found the best website in the internet for free game graphics, sounds and music:
http://opengameart.org/

The OpenGameArt site has lots of game assets of all kinds, and all of them are licenced under some Free Licence, such as Creative Commons or GPL.

Most of those free licences place just one condition on you: that you credit the original author of the work, if you use the work in your own projects. So, it's all free to use, even in commercial projects, as long as you remember to credit the original authors.

Although some of those licences have a "Share Alike" condition ("GPL2", "GPL3" and "CC-BY-SA 3.0" ), which basically means that if you use the work in a computer game, then that game must be Open Source, just like the artwork is...which is a small problem for us, because our M484 Game Creation System is not Open Source. At least not yet. But I'm considering releasing it as such in the future, for many reasons...but I'll tell more about that later. :)

But anyways, lots of art and music at OGA is licenced in such a way that you can freely use it in your M484 game projects. Just pay attention to the many "Licence plates" there, and you'll be fine. :D

And if I eventually actually Open Source the M484GCS, then we could use 100% all of it without any worries. But we'll see about that.

---

Also, I have plans to make a "free graphics" section to this our website as well, which would have free ready-made graphics and tilesets, created both by Me and by You People...so most likely I'll soon join this whole "Creative Commons" craziness, because I find it quite addictive. :D

And in fact I already did, here is my OGA profile:
http://opengameart.org/users/master484

I have uploaded some old stuff there that has been sitting on my hard drive for years, and will upload more in the future...this way all the graphics from my old abandoned projects will find some purpose; if I don't need it, then maybe someone else does, and so all the pixel art that I made didn't go to waste. :)

Here's some "living" music for you:

Talk Talk - Living in Another World
G.G. Near - Living in a ROM

The word "ROM" stands for Read Only Memory:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Read-only_memory

In computers, ROM memory stores data which normally can't be altered or changed; the data can be Read, but you can't Write into it...this is why it's called "Read-Only" Memory. ROM holds the most important system information, to which normal users don't have any access...but hackers and various "chosen ones" can sometimes break this rule, and then they are "Living in the ROM", and turn into super humans like Neo in the Matrix. :)

M484GCS Version 6.2 Released

I made a few improvements again, and now we are at V6.2:
http://m484games.ucoz.com/index/m484gcs/0-34

This is mainly a small-medium size bug fix update, but also two changes were made: The "start-up screen" from the beginning of the Game Engine was removed, because I came to the conclusion that it was unnecessary. And also the High Score Writing Screen "cursor" is now a normal "image", that you can freely change to anything you wish. :)

M484 Games and the M484GCS are now on listed on IndieDB. :)

Here are links to all pages that I created there:

M484 Games:
http://www.indiedb.com/company/m484-games

M484 Game Creation System:
http://www.indiedb.com/engines/m484-game-creation-system

Side Blaster:
http://www.indiedb.com/games/side-blaster

Maybe you have already heard of this indie games database, but if not, then it's basically a database which lists games, engines and mods. Anyone can freely submit their own games, projects and groups there, which will then be listed there. This way the projects get attention, and people find the projects; it's a great concept, and I can recommend this site for all. :)

Also I put a small banner to our front page here, which shows the M484GCS's current popularity ranking on IndieDB. And you can click it too to view our profile there. :)

---

Also, all games that are made with M484GCS can of course also be added to IndieDB. And because the M484GCS is listed there, you can select it from an engine list while submitting your game there; and when you do this, your game will then be automatically listed in the engines profile under the "games" section (as well as in the normal games section there). This way both the game and the engine will get some extra attention. So, if you have made something decent with the M484GCS, then you might consider adding it to IndieDB. :)

Ok, the Side Blaster project has been upgraded to the "latest standards". :)

You can get the new version here:
http://m484games.ucoz.com/index/side_blaster/0-36

It's the same game/demo that was released some months ago, but upgraded to take advantage of the latest tricks, and to be compatible with M484GCS v6+.

This version is lot more polished, and many new effects have been added, such as randomized background stars/bubbles, enemies with tracking lasers, and many other cool things.

---

And as you can see, I made a separate section for the games that have been made with the M484GCS. This way things will stay more organized as more and more games appear.

M484GCS Version 6.1 Released

http://m484games.ucoz.com/index/m484gcs/0-34

I made a quick update, so we are now at version 6.1.

This update fixes the "F5 hotkey screen mode change crash"-issue and one other smaller bug.
And also it adds a "software licence" text file to the package, which gives a more detailed explanation about the terms of use, and that stuff.

Version 6.0 Released

Ok, here it is, M484 Game Creation System version 6.0.

http://m484games.ucoz.com/index/m484gcs/0-34

This is the biggest and most important update to the program so far.

---

There is a lot of new stuff, the most important of which are:

- The data structure of the project files is now 100% backwards compatible. (Starting from v6.0 - projects made with v5.x or older are not compatible with v6.0+)
- Added a "Load Project" feature. Projects can now be loaded from the editor, so you can work on many projects at once.
- Added "Intro screens", which can be used to display logos and other "intro stuff" when the game starts.
- All "shell screens" can now have Objects(+Scripts too) and Tiles in them.
- Added a "Script Extras" feature (allows the creation of XY line triggers), 3 new script types, and a "Center" option.
- Lots of optimization: Map Editor slowdown has finally been eliminated, and many routines are faster.

And lots more. There are so many upgrades that I can't list them all there, but I'll post the version summary to the forum as usual. :)

Ok, seems like we missed the deadline again. :D

I need one more week to finish M484GCS Version 6.
The new file system needs to be tested carefully before I release it to the public...
So, be patient.

I would say "next weekend".

Ok folks, here are the shocking latest news:
United Kingdom is planning to have a China-style internet censorship running by the end of this year.

Some of you might already know this, but if not, then read these articles to get an idea about what's coming:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/07/29/uk-internet-filter-block-more-than-porn_n_3670771.html?utm_hp_ref=world

http://www.ultraculture.org/uk-forcing-internet-censorship-even-esoteric-sites/

https://www.openrightsgroup.org/blog/2013/sleepwalking-into-censorship

---

This is the so called "internet porn censorship law", that you might have heard about, but there are many hidden "extra features" in it as well, such as the censorship of "web forums" and "esoteric websites".

This censorship of course would also include M484 Games, because this website has "esoteric material" (God's Calculator and Numegalogy), and also our separate forum site would be censored because erm...it could be classified as a "web forum". :D

---

In practice this law will apparently be implemented by making an "ON-OFF choice" system of some kind; so theoretically you can turn the censorship filters off, BUT they'll be TURNED ON by default.
Also there have been rumors that even if you turn the filters "OFF", this mode will last only 24 hours, and after this time period they'll be automatically turned back "ON".

---

So, what can I say?

If this law comes into power, then MANY websites will be inaccessible from the UK.
Basically this law would create a China style "Firewall" for the UK, except that the people can choose to turn it "Off", (but the default mode is "On", and most people will leave it that way...)

To understand the psychological meaning of this law, imagine a bookstore where some books are "hidden" by default, because the law says so, and in order to see these books you have to ask the shopkeeper to show them to you.

This creates a situation where:
1. People don't know that the "hidden" material even exists, because it's invisible.
2. They cannot "stumble upon" it by accident, because it's invisible.
3. They cannot find it even if they actively search for it, because it's invisible.
4. All "publicly visible" material will be "official" and "legitimate". All alternative opinions, "extreme politics", alternative religious views, etc will be hidden from the public.

So, looks like it's "lights out" for the UK, back to the Dark Ages. :(

Ok, here are again the latest news regarding the M484GCS:

Some time ago I decided that one more big update is still needed before the program is "use-worthy" and "launch-ready".
So, Version 6 will be the next thing I'll do.
Originally I hoped that V5.0 would have been "The One", but it's not...

...Because the program still lacks these critical features:
- Intro screens for displaying logos at the program start-up.
- The ability to place animated objects and tiles into the "Shell Screens".
- A 100% compatibility between projects made with different program versions.
- Ability for the Editor to load more than one "gamefiles" project.
- A few more script options, so that game objects can react better to the Player Object. (Player "X/Y line" dependent script activation, and so on)
- And some other things.

Of those things, I have already completed the first two, and the rest will be completed during this month I hope.

And then the program should finally be at "Gold Status", and we can finally put our world conquering plans into action. :)
