This news came out a few days ago:

The production of the famous Sisu pastilles will end here.
Instead of Finland, the pastilles will now on be made in Italy.

I don't know what to say.

That pastille brand is very famous here in Finland, because it's named after the concept of "sisu".
You can read a description about it here:

"The literal meaning is equivalent in English to "having guts", and the word derives from sisus, which means something inner or interior. However sisu is defined by a long-term element in it; it is not momentary courage, but the ability to sustain an action against the odds. Deciding on a course of action and then sticking to that decision against repeated failures is sisu."

"Sisu" is an attribute that all Finns are supposed to have.
The famous Winter War against the Soviet Union was supposedly won thanks to it:

So in the symbolic level, the decision to move the production of the pastilles to Italy made me pause for a moment...
Why should a "national product" be made outside Finland?
Because after they start making them in Italy, then they have to ship them "back" to Finland, which sounds like a big waste of resources...

But hey, who cares, we have too many jobs in this country anyway, so when I hear that another factory is closing down, it always makes me happy. :)

On the more serious level, this move clearly shows us the reality of our current economical model:
The corporations ( = the people who own those corporations ) control the economy, and not the state. This is true for every country, and not for just Finland.

So what is the point of all those government promises "to create more jobs", if the bottom line is that it can't keep those jobs in the country? And if the government can't control something this fundamental, then does it really have any true power at all?

The true economical power is in the hands of private individuals; those people who own most of the businesses, banks, and the media. And through their money, these individuals and families control the politics as well. A hidden plutocracy, disguised as democracy...

Work, consume and vote.
And repeat.

Näin se homma etenee.

And finally, some people may now wonder if I might have this "sisu", because I'm from Finland...
And the answer is No.
